Research activities

Research of the Institute of Automatic Control traditionally included: the theory of control, drive control, application and implementation of analog and digital control systems, computer control, robot control. Recently more and more research is on the borderline of automation and computer science.

 

Institute of Automation cooperates with:

Staff of the Institute are members of the esteemed scientific societies such as:

  • Komitet Automatyki i Robotyki PAN (Automation and Robotics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences),
  • Sekcja Energoelektroniki i Napędu Elektrycznego Komitetu Elektrotechniki PAN (Section of Power Electronics and Electrical Drives Committee for Electrotechnical Sciences),
  • Sekcja Telekomunikacji Komitetu Elektroniki i Telekomunikacji PAN (Section of Telecommunications Committee of the Electronics and Telecommunication Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences).

Staff of the Institute have: published 36 books (monographs and manuals) - including 5 abroad, 11 scripts, 680 articles and papers in conference proceedings; obtained 55 PhD degrees and 7 postdoctoral degrees; received the 6 titles of Professor and 2 of Profesor PŁ.

 

The Institute organizes a biennial national conference "Sterowanie w Energoelektronice i Napędzie Elektrycznym (SENE)" (Control in power electronics and electric drives) which enjoys high prestige among experts in the field.

 

Picture of our diverse academic interests gives the following list of research topics of currently prepared doctoral dissertations:

  • Study of magnetic stimulation in the HRV image
  • Use of nonstationary switching planes in sliding mode control of third-order plants,
  • Evolutionary algorithms in the optimization of functions of several variables,
  • Control of data flow in teleinformation networks,
  • Muscle drives,
  • Bacterial algorithms,
  • Mechanical impedance transformation of the object to the teleoperator controller,
  • Manipulators with joints having more than one degree of freedom in a single joint,
  • Computer-assisted teleoperation of hypermobile robot,
  • Rehabilitation works,
  • Jumping robots,
  • Swarm intelligence (Particle Swarm Optimization),
  • The use of orthonormal functions for tuning of industrial controllers,
  • The method of initial self-tuning of an auto-tuning controller
  • The computer control system for control of lime works performance using fuzzy control algorithm,
  • Positional control of permanent magnet linear drive,
  • Design of discrete controllers robust to changes in the controlled system,
  • The vision system with programmable perception and its use in the control of robots,
  • The dynamics of the position control system with partial derivative PID controller,
  • Sensorless control system of induction motor with "stymulator stanu",
  • Flexible control of the flow-through production line without stopping,
  • The use of an induction motor torque observer for the protection of the operation of the machine driven by the motor.

 

Doctoral students of the Institute received several major awards and honors:
